Sideracordis wins the X-41 Europeans

Lelagain is X-35 World Champion

The last day of racing at Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup has taken place at Marina di Scarlino in Maremma Tuscany. In all 19 races were held in four days with close to 80 yachts from 14 nations competing on four separate courses with the Islands of Elba, Montecristo and Corsica on the horizon. The event was organized by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Club Nautico Scarlino, in collaboration with X-Yachts Italia and in partnership with Steiner.

Lelagain owned by Franco Solerio with tactician Branco Brcin is the winner of the X-35 World Championship with 34 points (a 13 point lead on Karma, second overall). This is the second consecutive World title: in 2009 the yacht won the World Championship in Germany and in 2010 triumphed in the X-35 class at the Copa del Rey.

Sideracordis owner Pier Vettor Grimani with Daniele Cassinari is the European X-41 Champion with 23 points (6 point lead on th Le Coq Hardi second overall).

The Prize Giving Ceremony was held in La Piazzetta at Marina di Scarlino in the afternoon with wine and refreshments offered by Maremma Tuscany, an association representing high-end companies with excellence and quality as a common denominator.

X-35 World Championship

The start gun fired at 2 p.m. once the thermal breeze had settled in on the Gulf of Scarlino blowing fron the northwest at 10-12 knots. British X on the Beach owner and helmsman Ingo Dietrich rounded the first windward mark in the lead, stretchining out on Lelagain and Giochelotta, winning the race and wrapping up the Chamipionship 6th overall.

2. Karma ,Vladimiro Pegoraro (ITA): 47 points
3. Spirit of Nerina , Alberto Fusco (ITA): 48 points
4. Margherita, Roberto Mazzucato (ITA): 55 points
5. Tixelio , Carlo Brenco (ITA): 58 points

X-41 European Championship

Racing kicked off shortly before 2 p.m WB Five with Signorini at the helm cut the finish line in 1st position, followed by Le Coq Hardi with De Angelis calling tactics in second place and in third Spanish Iberostar with tactician Luis Doreste on board.

Overall Results: (after 10 races and 1 discard)

2. Le Coq Hardi , Maurizio Pavesi (ITA): 29 points
3. Raffica, Pasquale Orofino (ITA): 30 points
4. WB Five, Gianclaudio Bassetti (ITA): 32 points
5. Malafemmena, Giovanni Di Lorenzo (ITA): 36 points

Over 50’ Invitational

The Over 50’ fleet raced on an offshore course using the Island of Cerboli, just off the Island of Elba, as a natural buoy. Capricciricci, owner Gianluigi Dubbini, won the race and the regatta

X-Yachts Gold Cup

The X-Yachts Gold Cup today completed an additional three races. Two for the Sport division on a windward-leeward course and one for the Family division on a triangle course.

On the docks

Ingo Dietrich, owner and helmsman of X On the Beach (GBR) who closed 6th overall, stated: “ I am very happy to be back racing in Scarlino. I have been coming here for a couple of years now and it’s great to see how it keeps on getting better and better. The race course is fantastic and there is excellent management both on the water and on land.”

Japanese Toschi Sakama, maintrimmer on Quetefeek “This is our first time in Italy and what a great place to sail! I wish we had more time to discover the Tuscan Archipelago, but we must go back to defend our National Title.”
