Crosby SC held its post dinghy show racing on Sunday 6th March. After a long Saturday travelling to London and back in a minibus restricted to 60mph, they returned home at 10pm.
The fatigue showed a few minutes into launching, when Spud Ward’s solo was seen floating on its side. He had not ducked low enough on tacking, and was dragged out. The joys of new kit hurriedly put on after the show. The laughter from the slipway, roused everyone.
The racing started with enthusiasm, and the Laser of Ian Middleton and Phantoms of Mark Blanchard and Richie Allen started to pull away from the pack. James Middleton in his Laser Radial constantly chipping at his dad’s lead. The handicap results saw the solo of Simon Molyneaux from Ian then James.
Race two saw a fantastic start with several trying a port tack into the first mark, loads of shouts of starboard and 720s. This allowed Ian to stretch out and great lead over the Phantoms, which he held until the second lap. Southerly winds are very flukey at Crosby, and the final lap saw this borne out. The Phantoms paced out along the river side of the lake, as Ian rounded the windward mark to the finish, a massive lift saw him gain minutes on them. Then came the problem, the race officer's watch had been knocked and had stopped. No race times and no handicap results. Oh well...
