21-29 July 2012
Plymouth Regatta, the championship race meeting of the Port, will take place 21st to 29th July, offering very competitive racing for all monohull yachts and dinghies.
Sailing in the beautiful waters of Plymouth Sound and its Approaches, the Regatta begins on 21st July with an eight-race weekend series for IRC, PY and OD yachts. On Saturday the regatta will incorporate the RYA Sail for Gold day. This Olympian initiative aims to see as many boats as possible on the water as sailors are urged to ‘Push the Boat Out’. A gentle white sail race will be offered for all those yachtsmen who prefer the more leisurely approach to sailing, including the usual apres sail social facilities.
Something different is planned for the week day evenings; an opportunity to try your skills at river racing as yachts and dinghies visit various local clubs to race in a separate mini series.
The final weekend on 28th and 29th July is for the dinghies. An eight-race series over the two days is offered for all classes of dinghy, and provision can include National Championships if required. Also on the Sunday will be the race for yachts taking part in the annual Plymouth Classic Boat Rally – a spectacular sight as these beautiful craft sail in Plymouth Sound.
The racing is complemented by a full programme of social activities, with sailing suppers after racing and live music on both Saturdays. Our generous sponsors provide great daily prizes which will be presented each evening, with trophies at the end of the regatta for the overall winners.
A warm welcome awaits competitors from outside the port who want competitive racing in the ideal waters of Plymouth Sound. Berthing and dinghy parking can be arranged for you if required.
