17-19 July 2015
The bands are booked, the race management team is one stand by and date for 'Plymouth Regatta 2015' is set. This might seem like an early call but it's that time of year when skippers and crew will be reflecting on what can feel like a long season's sailing. They will also over the next two months be planning the year ahead.
One of the year's events, 'Plymouth Regatta Week', has also been reflecting and planning for 2015. After reading though the plentiful feedback forms it is clear that the 2014 event was a huge success, from the race management to the après sail entertainment, everyone who took part had a great three days in Plymouth. So, a date for next year's diary has to be 'Plymouth Regatta 2015' from the 17th-19th July.
Race Director, Neil Dunkley, said: "The team and I have read through the feedback and we're as delighted as the competitors seem to be. We're not sitting on our laurels though, for this year we are building on everything we leant and plan to make the regatta even better. As well as bringing more yachtsmen in from surrounding ports, one thing I'm really keen to do is attract more cruiser/racers from within Plymouth. Plymouth Regatta is inclusive and there's a lot of fun and a great social atmosphere to be enjoyed, I'd love to see more local sailors getting involved."
Three fleets who have noted the excellent racing Plymouth Sound and the waters south of the breakwater offer and plan to hold their National Championships during the Regatta are; Offshore Multihull Fleet, the J24 fleet and the fast growing Seascape Class. Together they will bring nearly 50 boats to the event and that's before IRC, NHC, Sports boats and the White Sail are added to the throng, which means the time ashore will have a really festive feel.
The Royal Western Yacht Club, with it's superb clubhouse location, will again host the regatta, with the race village centered around Queen Anne Battery's excellent facilities. The RWYC's commodore, John Lewis, commented: "Plymouth, Britain's Ocean City has always deserved a high profile annual regatta and we're well on our way to achieving that aim. All of us at the RWYC are looking forward to hosting the event again which we hope will lead to greater participation in all nominated classes."
For those who find the season long, Plymouth Regatta is only three days, three days of quality racing followed by great evening entertainment. So, any yachtsmen looking for a well organised, fun regatta should put the Plymouth Regatta in their 2015 diary.
