Laser Vago Open at Grafham Water Sailing Club

by Ed Deacon 28 May 2012 07:19 BST 26-27 May 2012

Laser Vagos joined up with the Laser multi-class at Grafham Water on Saturday and Sunday for six races. A big thank you to Grafham Water Sailing Club for putting the event.

Saturday racing was in 17+ knots of wind where the Vagos and Laser 3000 started together and were very soon in amongst the 2K's on the outer loop with some close racing on a 5 lap course positions changed regularly, the single-hander Dave Baxter lead for the first 3 races with John and Jack Davies closing the gap in 2nd place swapping with Ed Deacon for the second race. Douglas Cooley and Sally Harris were consistently 4th with some very good sailing, With the strong wind there were a few capsizes to keep it interesting. The RO shortened course after the leaders had gone through which messed the results up but this was sorted quickly

Sunday was lighter but still 10+ knots this favoured the single-handed sailors with Dave Baxter wining all 3 races though Ed Deacon did lead for the last 2 races only for Dave to take it back, Brian Pitman made it single-handed 123 on the last 2 races. The double-handers also had very close racing with very good sailing from all of the fleet, Douglas and Sally were consistent at rounding the top mark first, closely followed by Clive Sleath with Amanda Sleath in the fleet.

The weather was perfect for sailing and everyone will probably feel it tomorrow good fun was had by all :o)
