Lymington Town Sailing Club Sunday Winter Dinghy Series - Race 10

by Barry Sticklen 18 Dec 2012 12:02 GMT 16 December 2012

With the winds predicted all week as NW 15 - 20k with gusts to 25k it was a surprise to find W 3-4k and some sun early on Sunday morning. The wind filled in to a steady W 7-9k to provide light conditions but sufficient to overcome a strong flood tide with tactics on the beat being the key to success.

In the Fast Fleet John Cooper and Becci Wigley in their RS400 finished 2nd (corrected time) but it was enough to take 1st overall in the Series. On the day Matthew Thomas and Steve Nicholas in their RS400 were ahead of John and Becci at the finish and took 1st place (corrected time) which gave them 3rd overall in the Series. Luke and Emma McEwen had a disappointing race finishing 8th (corrected time) but that still gave them 2nd overall in the Series but having to count a DNC they were never going to make 1st spot. Keith and Julie Willis finished 3rd (corrected time) in their RS400.

In the Medium Fleet we were expecting a determined battle between Mark Barwell and Louise Johnson in their Merlin Rocket and Adrian Barwell in his Streaker to secure a Series win but Adrian elected to sail a Supernova instead of the Streaker thus allowing Mark and Louise to take the Series win with a 2nd (corrected time) in this last race. Adrian still managed to take 2nd overall in the Series with the Streaker and took 3rd (corrected time) in the race with the Supernova. Myles Mence sailed a good race in his Blaze to take 1st place (corrected) in the race. Richard Russell in his RS100 finished 6th (corrected time) which gave him 3rd overall in the Series.

The Slow Fleet struggled a bit with the tide when the wind went light as a shower came through but had good racing. Jonny Tait came in 1st which gave him the Series win followed by Robby Boyd in 2nd who was also 2nd in the Series. Liam Willis was 3rd. Charlotte Barrett was 4th with Tom Goacher in 5th and they finished the Series on 11 points each.
