In line with sailing events across the country, Largo Bay Sailing Club's Annual Regatta on the weekend of June 22/23 was a more modest affair than usual with 32 boats entering.

The forecast was promising but no sooner had the race committee set the course for the first race than the wind died completely leaving everyone drifting. A half hour postponement was signalled and to everyone's relief the wind filled in from the South West. It was sufficiently lively and gusty to make the afternoon's racing exciting with a number of capsizes which kept the safety crews on their toes. The only Scottish Championship fleet, the Finns, had a mixed weekend with Russ Ward (Loch Venacher) out manoeuvring Kevan Gibb (Largo Bay) to take three first places but was unable to sail the next day allowing Gibb to keep his Scottish Championship. Other classes were more predictable with Largo Bay SC's Peter Malcolm occupying his usual first place in each of the Laser class races and Jim Blyth and Danny Read doing the same thing in their 505, sailing in the General Handicap.

Sunday dawned dreich with rain and a gusty northerly as forecast. Although the race committee and safety crews gradually got wetter and colder, the sailing was very good with the Enterprises fighting it out to the last lap; the first three boats were on equal points at the end with the positions decided on the placings in the last race. Competition amongst the Laser Radials was hot too with little between the first three boats. Although there was not much evidence of midsummer, it was a good weekend made possible by the many volunteers who worked on the committee boat, the safety boats, on the beach and in the clubhouse.
