Scammonden Water Sailing Club has been awarded a £10,000 grant from Sport England. The West Yorkshire-based club received the funding boost to help buy two new Wayfarer training boats for the club's growing training centre.
The multi-hander boats will be used by the club's Saturday Club, a lively club which has seen instructors volunteer their time to teach children and beginners how to sail.
Paul Cornish, SWSC sailing captain, said: "We're really grateful to Sport England for the £10,000 grant.
"Every week club members, in their own time and for no reward, teach children and adults to sail. We only had single-hander boats and we know not everyone has to confidence to sail on their own, especially when they first start.
"The Wayfarers are great team boats - we hope they'll be well used this summer and therafter.
"We're also hoping club members will make use of them too and swap their single-handers for a sail together occasionally."
To show off the boats SWSC is holding an Open Day and will take the wider public out for a sail around the bay in the new Wayfarers.
Club members will also hold a demonstration race, capsize demonstration and have a display of boats at the Open Day.
It takes place on Saturday, July 13, from 10am until 4pm and the club would welcome members of other sailing clubs to come and join them for the day.
