The forecast of force 3 gusting 4 and sunshine set the scene for what was to be a day of close competitive racing for the fleet. 12 visitors joined the home fleet to bring 22 boats together to contest the meeting.

The fleet left the shore eager for race 1 which started at the first attempt (which was a surprise of the OOD) the slight port bias did however claim a few impatient helms OCS! Mark Lunn and Steve Blackburn from WLYC declared their intent and led at the windward mark, the pursuing pack at this time being led by Calum & Rory McKenzie. Martin Honour and Naomi Tyers played the upwind shifts to their advantage to take second from Jonathan Woodward sailing with Harvey Martin. Mark and Steve made the best of the gusting conditions to avoid the clutches of the ensuing pack and pulled away to take the win.

Races 2 & 3 were raced back to back following an excellent lunch. The wind had by now increased to 4 gusting 5 and shifted a little more towards the SW. Race 2 saw Tim and Hannah Sadler duelling with Mark and Steve for the lead. The gusts were leaving their mark with an increasing number of capsizes throughout the fleet. Mark and Steve gained an advantage over the Sadlers and took their second win and the meeting. This left second place wide open to 4 boats depending upon the results of the final race.

Race 3 started with a few less boats but a clear advantage to be gained from the left hand side of the course. Russ Short and Will Ward were first to the windward mark but misjudged the approach in the shifty wind allowing the Sadlers to take the lead. The two gybe marks within the course proved to be the points of attrition for the fleet however Matt Velamail and Tim Brownell showed keen boat handling to claim second. The Sadlers controlled defence throughout the race allowed them to take line honours and secure second overall.

The winners Mark Lunn and Steve Blackburn thanked Ogston SC for hosting an enjoyable event which was echoed by the fleet. Only a few events now remain before the National Championships which takes place this year at South Caenarvonshire YC from 27th July to the 2nd August.
