Noble Marine 2022 YY - LEADERBOARD

Noble Marine Scorpion Nationals at Sidmouth Sailing Club - Days 4 & 5

by Peter Work 23 Aug 2013 21:03 BST 17-23 August 2013

After a short postponement the fleet went afloat in a light south easterly breeze. John and James Mursell had finally found their form to lead at the windward mark closely followed by Steve hall and Oli Wells and Tim Parsons and Alex Gayman. Steve and Oli fought their way through to the lead ahead of John and James Mursell with Pete Gray and Rich Pepperdine clinching third place after a good last beat.

The second race of the day started at the first attempt! With Steve hall and Oli Wells being persued by Pete Gray the leading pair did not have the best start. Following a left hand shift up the first beat John and James lead the race from start to finish from Andy McKee and Steve Graham and another good result from Tim and Alex who had finally found the go button on their new HD sails.

The fleet retired to the bar for the classic letter D fancy dress night. Daily prizes were kindly sponsored by Gul and the fleet partied long into the night with duck feathers, inflatable boats and skinny dipping before heading to the legendary Carinas night club!

After a massive night with the fancy dress party, several members of the fleet were feeling delicate for the final day of racing, with some sailors not even managing to stay conscious for the duration of the race. The race finally got away on the 3rd attempt with a hand full of black flags. Pete Mitchell and Simon Forbes lead from the start and finally managed to get a race win! After a battle in the leading pack it was Steve hall and Oli wells who took second and Tim parsons and Alex Gayman took third.

This result was enough for Steve and Oli to take the championship from Pete and Rich with Pete and Simons victory helping them to hold on for third place. A big thank you to Sidmouth sailing club and race officer John Keast for a great week of sailing.
