B&G launches new H5000 Instrument and Autopilot system

by Jax Missen 19 Nov 2013 15:30 GMT 19 November 2013

H5000 sets the bar for performance, functionality and integration

B&G is pleased to introduce the innovative new H5000 instrument and autopilot system, featuring the most powerful race-proven technology and advanced data processing available today.

The new H5000 system integrates exclusive sailing features and all of the critical instrumentation, sensors and sailing data together for fast analysis. At the centre of this powerful system is the H5000 Central Processing Unit (CPU), which has a dual processor capable of running up to 50 times faster than its closest rival.

The sophisticated H5000 CPU has 3 software options: Hydra, Hercules and Performance. This flexibility ensures that cruising and racing owners can choose the system best suited to them and upgrade according to their unique requirements.

The H5000 CPU supports the H5000 Pilot, a dedicated autopilot designed for the exacting needs of performance sailboats. The H5000 CPU also works with many existing H3000 sensors including Wind, Speed and Heel, making the switch to H5000 straightforward for current B&G users.

Designed to provide highly accurate, easy to read data, the H5000 system also integrates with existing B&G products such as the Zeus chartplotter range to provide the most cost effective and flexible instrumentation system available today – whether you are a serious cruiser or professional racer.

The sleek, compact system fits well into an established NMEA 2000® network or can itself be the heart of a new network of instruments. The H5000 system is comprised of:

H5000 Graphic Display: This high resolution, full colour, graphical display has a highly intuitive user interface and allows new ways of visualising sailing data in digital or graphical forms. The H5000 Graphic Display provides access to exclusive sailing features including the unique Start line function and SailSteer page. With a large 5-inch bonded screen, the H5000 Graphic Display delivers clear, accurate information to the user.

H5000 Race Display: An extremely low power, lightweight bonded display with digital backlit LCD screen that provides segmented text and numbers, for clear and easy to see information at a glance. The Race Display is designed for the racing sailor who needs the most accurate numbers, delivered fast.

H5000 Pilot: The record-breaking B&G Pilot has been refined and improved thanks to continued development with Grand Prix racing and cruising sailors. The H5000 Pilot has dedicated sailing algorithms, which allow this autopilot to meet the exacting needs of a performance sailboat and its crew – whether short-handed or just looking for an extra pair of hands.

H5000 Pilot Controller: Waterproof to IPx7, this compact Pilot display and control unit gives users dedicated access to the H5000 Pilot functions.

Browser-based setup: Connect your PC or tablet to the CPU's Ethernet network to access to the most detailed parts of your H5000 system. An easy to use web-style portal lets you calibrate instruments, configure displays and choose from an array of features. You can also access product manuals, data backups and system diagnostics through this powerful configuration tool.

H5000 Modules: Choose from an array of precision sensors and modules including 3D Motion – providing Heel and Trim angles alongside Roll, Pitch and Yaw rates to provide H5000 users access to B&G's unique motion correcting Wave Technology. A High Resolution Barometric pressure sensor with integrated air temperature and a network alarm module is also available. Sailors can choose from B&G's wide range of performance sensors, which provide unlimited options for system customisation.

Leif Ottosson, CEO of B&G said: "B&G's commitment to sailors has never been greater – the H5000 is the fruit of the most committed sailors and engineers in the marine electronics industry. We took the most celebrated instrument system available and bettered it, leading the way yet again and proving that B&G is a unique brand with unique values.

"This is just the start of a wave of new and exciting products to come from the B&G range in the coming months, we are continuously working hard to meet the needs of sailors, whose demands and expectations are our benchmark."

An evolution of the leading H3000, the H5000 builds on the best sailing instrument and autopilot system on the market and makes it even better. B&G has spent countless man hours of research and development time refining and improving a system which has set the bar for sailors everywhere – collaborating with navigators to win Volvo Ocean Races, America's Cups and the Vendee Globe.

The H5000 Instrument system will be available from Spring 2014, basic systems will be expected to start from £3,500 Excl. VAT. To find out more about B&G's award-winning range of sailing electronics, tactical and navigational products, visit www.bandg.com
