Boss Nationals at Broadstairs Sailing Club

by John Shelton 2 Jun 2005 18:54 BST 28-30 May 2005

Only the weather and tide were the winners of the Boss Nationals held at Broadstairs SC over the bank holiday weekend. With gusts over 35 knots on Saturday, all sailing was postponed until the following days.

By contrast, Sunday's wind barely rose above 5 knots, hardly enough to make any way over the strong tide. Only one race was completed, won by Peter Bennett and John Shelton, defending champions from Shoreham. Monday was the same picture and the race officer did well to get two races away, both won by the Shoreham team.

However, many compensations were found in the excellent hospitality provided by the host club, and a return visit would be welcome, hopefully with better wind.

The 2005 Boss Nationals will now be re-run at the National Sailing Academy at Weymouth on 9/10 July
