First of many prizes to be handed over before a boat even goes afloat
Congratulations to Phantom sailor Matthew Pallett, prize draw winner for early entry to the Carsington Summer Trophy Event to be held this Sunday 11th May. Matthew will be presented with his prize, the very latest action camera with integrated GPS from Garmin, the VIRB Elite, at the briefing before racing on Sunday. Watch this space for footage from his racing on the day!
On-line entry closes on Friday, enter here now: garmin.sailracer.org
Reigning GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series champion Michael Sims comes head to head with Solo rival and Fireball World Champion Tom Gillard of North Sails. Gillard pipped Sims in 3 of the 5 events in which they competed against each other over the winter (both in Solos) but Sims's consistency across the series saw him take the title. This weekend Gillard favours his Streaker over Solo but with both boats sailing off a Great Lakes handicap of 1146 it will be a very interesting competition to watch. Only at two of the winter events did either of these sailors drop outside the top 20 and neither ever finished outside the top 25.
And with trackers on every boat, the battle will be live for all to see on screens in the clubhouse and streamed via the internet. Garmin VIRB Elite action cameras will be fitted to selected boats and around the course to capture the racing for the event report. The winner takes home one of these great little cameras - can someone else steal the prize from the Solo/Streaker duo?
With breezy conditions forecast it could be the top flight Fireball sailor Kevin Hope, crewed by Alex Piggot, taking the honours and the well matched Phantoms, RS300s and Contender should also be in for a close battle. See the tracking action live on-line (and for replay) at sailracer.garmin.org
