Conditions likely to be the other end of the scale for the one-day Datchet Summer Flyer
With the Datchet Summer Flyer rescheduled as a one day event, this coming Sunday 1st June, the forecast is quite in contrast to the dramatic sunshine and showers of Round 1 of the Garmin Summer Series at Carsington.
On-line entry closes at Midnight Friday, enter online at garmin.sailracer.org
In keeping with the new Garmin Summer Series tradition, the first Datchet prize draw is announced before arriving at the venue. With a close sniff at the podium, finishing 5th at Carsington, RS300 Sailor Tim Keen was one of the first to enter the Datchet event and his early commitment has paid dividends, winning the early entry prize draw. He will collect a Garmin VIRB Elite action camera, worth £350, at the briefing.
Returning (no doubt with his VIRB mounting still attached to his Streaker) for his second attempt to take first prize is Tom Gillard, of North Sails. The Streaker, formerly rated slower than the Solo, showed superior speed on the reach in the very breezy conditions at Carsington and beat top Solo sailor Michael Sims on the water, now sailing off the same handicap. Will light winds treat the Streaker as kindly on Sunday?
Great to see a fleet of Wayfarers already on the entry list and the Musto Skiffs, with a strong home fleet, will also be out in numbers.
With SailRacer's GPS trackers on every boat, the battle will be live for all to see on screens in the clubhouse and streamed via the internet. Garmin VIRB Elite action cameras will be fitted to selected boats and around the course, with the opportunity to swap them onto other boats at lunchtime to cover as many different classes as possible. See the tracking action live on-line (and for replay) at sailracer.garmin.org
