The Island Sailing Club Bart's Bash race got off to a flying start on Sunday with 29 boats managing to make it to the start line to race. No points were given to Gerry Faram in Ding Dong D who managed to break his rudder before the start and had to be towed home. Must try harder!
The race team were thrilled to see so many boats as 25 was the minimum to be part of the World Record attempt at the most boats racing in a 24hr period across the globe. Well done Island Sailing Club!
The boats set off on a 6.5 nautical mile race which included the race mark called Bart's Bash in a 12 to 15 knot North Easterly breeze. 10 of those entered were also racing in the ISC Autumn series which was scheduled on the same day.
Some poor spinnaker work was noticed on the final run in to the line from a number of boats and several wine glasses were seen (on the water, not the race box!)
The whole day was in support of the Andrew Simpson Foundation who were raising money to help "transform the lives of young people through sailing". You can read more at www.bartsbash.co.uk
The race was completed in under 2 hours and the results, available on the ISC website, will also be sent to Bart's Bash to calculate the global winner on the day – Watch this space!
A great day was had by all and many came back to the ISC for prize giving in the bar.
