Cruising along the Langkawi coast
Race Day 4 was another glorious day of sailing at the 13th Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2015 as the fleet set out to 1.2 miles up the West Harbor, on a windward/leeward course.
The Club Cruisers and Ocean Rover were sent on up the West coast of Langkawi through some majestic and stunning landscapes. After the decision on Thursday to split the Ocean Rover yachts into two groups, it was also established that Group A yachts could fly spinnakers if they wanted but Group B was restricted from using spinnakers.
Pulteney Cabaret 6 in IRC-2 suffered a drawback with an over eager start in the first race which resulted in a re-start, and the Sports Boats RSYC Setia West and RQYS were the other two who found themselves too anxious to get away and had to return to the start line for another try.
All classes except the Multihulls, Club Cruising and Ocean Rovers raced twice today.
The Racing Class, the IRC-1 Class, and the IRC-2 Classes' combined coastal course start for the second race was an incredible spinnaker-flying downwind start, with Oi! leading the way.
Oi! in Racing, Mata Hari in IRC-1, and Foxy Lady VI in IRC-2 maintained their top spot in their respective Classes while Siput's two second place finishes in both Sports Boats races today put her crew on the top for the day, sending RSYC Setia West to second spot and SMU to third.
The Multihulls raced three times today. In the absence of Umineko, the three other catamarans – 2 Fast 4 You, Andaman Cabriolet Nina and Galeforce – took turns winning each race but it was 2 Fast 4 You that triumphed today.
The Club Cruisers and Ocean Rovers had one long race today with Sophia, My Toy and VG Offshore leading the pack out to the coastal course in a spectacular downwind start.
Sophia's steady run gave her top honours today in the Cruising Class while the newly split Ocean Rovers saw My Toy take first in Group A and VG Offshore garnering first for the day in Group B.
The final day of the 13th Royal Langkawi International Regatta will take place tomorrow with a scheduled start at 9.30am.
The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2015 is organised by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) and sanctioned by the ISAF and Malaysian Sailing Association (MSA), and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia. The RLIR is part of the Asian Yachting Circuit."
