Contender World Championship at Medemblik, Holland - Day 4

25-31 July 2015
On another breezy day on the Ijsselmeer at Medemblik, GBR sailor Simon Mussell won both races in the Gold Fleet. The force 5 wind was a bit more than forecast and set up a wicked chop. It was also very shifty with big gains for tacking on the right shifts.
Mussell didn't have it all his own way and had to work hard to pass Andrea Bonezzi and keep ahead of Mark Bulka. These three are now slightly ahead of the pack with Mussell and Bulka both on 6 points but Mussell with the better disgard, and Bonezzi on 7 points.
So far the racing has been fantastic with big exhausted smiles at the end of each day. The close racing has tested everyone in this really international fleet. Germany leads the fleet sizes but as always there's a great spread of countries with strong representation:
48 Germany; 30 GBR; 22 Netherlands; 15 Italy; 9 Denmark; 7 Australia; 3 France; 2 Switzerland; 2 Canada; 2 Austria; 1 USA; 1 Belgium.
Light winds are forecast for tomorrow, the final day. With two more races to go the championship is still wide open.
