26 July - 2 August 2015
Racing Day 2 in Brest, a full-on afternoon for the young European sailors competing in the 4th edition of the Eurosaf Youth Championship.
The first races started as scheduled at 12:00, but soon enough, Aeolus, the god of the winds, got under the skin of the officials and the sailors who had to wait on the water for the wind to change direction and speed.
After a change of path to adapt to the new weather conditions, a second and a third race went on in the afternoon in the 420 and Laser classes in an 8 to 9 knots wind.
420
No change at the top of the general classification tonight for both boys and girls. Jenny CROPIEU and Emma BAKER (GBR) as well as Théo CARAYON and Erwan LUCAS (YC Crouesty Arzon) lead the fleet despite a difficult day for the French pair who failed to reach the top 3 today.
Laser Radial
It was a great day for Gianmarco PLANCHESTAINER (ITA) who took top position from 3rd in the general classification. But the young Italian will have to keep a close eye on Jack CODSAN (GBR) who trails him by a single point.
It's very close at the top for the Girls with the two Italians Carolina ALBANO and Francesca BERGAMO sharing the lead overnight. On their heels is French sailor Louise CERVERA (YC Cannes).
In the RSX, 29er and SL16 racing zone, the route had to be changed for the second RS:X race and the third 29er and SL16 race in order to find the best possible conditions.
RS:X
Local boy Titouan LE BOSQ had to concede top spot to Matteo EVANGELISTI (ITA) who won the second race today.
As for the Girls, Mariam SEKHPOSYAN (RUS) and Bérénice MEGE (ASPTT Meyzieu Décine) are sharing the leader position overnight. Another French sailor, Lucie PIANAZZA (CN Angoulins) sits third at the end of Day 2.
SL16
Louis FLAMENT and Charles DORANGE (SR Rochelaises) are continuing their run of form with only a race conceded to their opponents today. They keep the overall lead with an impressive 4 victories out of six races competed so far.
29er
Aleksandra MELZACKA and Maja MICINSKA are still leading the series with a perfect day, a victory in each of the 3 races competed today.
As for the boys, Gwendal NAEL (CNBPP) and Pierre TYDGAT (CN Pornic) make consistency pay off tonight: the young French sailors are currently sitting at the top with already a 10 points lead on Polish competitors Mikolaj STANIUL and Kajetan JABLONSKI.
All competitors have now competed in 6 races, 5 for the RS:X, so this means that whatever happens over the next few days, Medal Races will take place on Sunday as the minimum required for this to go ahead was 4 races.
The forecast for tomorrow is a thermal wind for the beginning of the afternoon. The first start has therefore been postponed to 14:00.
What was said today
Adrien HUMEAU (FRA Laser Radial): "I'm really pleased to have won the first race today. I took a good start and passed the first mark in first position. I came here with a target in mind: to finish the week on the podium!"
Maria ERDI (HUN Laser radial): "It was up and down for me today, I won race 1 and race 3 but I couldn't compete in race 2 because I jumped the start so I got a black flag disqualification. I was also disqualified in one of the races yesterday after a protest against me so now my target has changed slightly because with these two disqualifications, I will be pleased if I manage to finish the week in the Top 3."
Sofie SCHONE and Line Johanna THIELEMANN (GER 420): "We won the first race but it was tough today because we also jumped a start so we had to cross the line again. On top of that, weather conditions were difficult, it was hard to find the right side!"
