Since the inaugural Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta in 2008, competitor numbers have continued to increase each year and the growing entry list for the 2016 event already suggests the 2015 record of 181 yachts will be broken.
Based in the popular sailing destination of Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, in the Western Solent, the Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta (Friday 29 July – Sunday 31 July) is – in the words of yachting journalist and frequent competitor at the event – 'how a regatta should be'. With the continued support of leading investment management company, Charles Stanley, the regatta is a blend of fiercely competitive and well organised racing with a broad and imaginative range of shore-based entertainment for all ages and tastes.
Classes for the 2016 Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta include Swan; Classic Swan; X One Design; Yarmouth One Design; International Folkboat; Contessa; J 24 and Gaffers with the event forming Day 2 of the IRC Solent Regional Championships. All classes will have two races on Saturday with one race on Sunday, while the Gaffers Class has one race each day.
Onshore, the regatta opens on Friday evening with the Champagne Taittinger Reception in the waterfront grounds of the Royal Solent Yacht Club and, once again, the legendary Towers Party is on Saturday night featuring live music, food, drink, fireworks and unmissable entertainment.
With the entry list growing daily, competitors can use the 50 per cent Early Bird registration discount available until 30 June.
