Heward & Hawkins cling to overall lead
With more than half the fleet now finished in Treguier, it appears that Gary Heward and Russell Hawkins sailing Amylou will hold onto a slender one point overall lead after two legs of the Yachting Monthly Triangle race.
However the provisional handicap winners of the 270 nautical mile second leg from Kinsale in Ireland to Brittany's Treguier are Alistair Locke and Colin Pritchard sailing the J109 Bonfire 4.
Heward and Hawkins, who won the first leg on handicap are provisionally fourth in the second leg, with Rick Newcombe and George Melbourne sailing eXehibitionist currently second, and father and son duo Chris and Corky Rhodes provisionally third.
If these results stand when everyone has finished, the Rhodes pair in Footloose II, a Sunfast 3600, will move up to second place overall, having finished third on handicap in both the first two legs.
Two points further back slipping to third place overall are the Australian father and son team of Mark and Walter Hipgrove, representing the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in their Sunfast 3600, Mr Lucky.
It will be an anxious wait for these competitors until the last boats have finished before their positions can be confirmed.
