Aldeburgh Yacht Club held their first Classic Boat Weekend over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th September. Open to dinghies and dayboats designed before 1965 and built before 1985 the event attracted 45 entries. As well as a good turnout from the club's own Loch Longs and Lapwings visitors came from all corners of the U.K and Holland. A strong contingent of CVRDA members had come across from the previous weekends National Rally at Hunts Sailing Club and had a weeks holiday on the unspoilt Suffolk Coast. We had a great range of boats including vintage I14's, National 12's, Lowrider Moths,Finn, Enterprise, Albacore and what may be the last Lazy E still sailing in the U.K.
On the dayboat front we welcomed visitors from Brightlingsea and Wivenhoe with their one designs and from Scotland Bobby Salmond, sailing Flying Fifteen 202 Silver Fox. This boat is part of AYC history having been owned for a long time by the Goodson family and under their ownership won the 1959 Nationals. There is still a picture in the clubhouse of that winning feat.
The weather was a touch windy for some of the more delicate dinghies but all owners enjoyed watching the racing particularly on Sunday when the two Flying Fifteens finished 2 seconds apart. More than 70 sailors sat down for an informal Curry Supper on the Saturday followed by live music from "The Random Blues Company".
Gill Moon of East Coast Photo's www.eastcoast.photos attended the event on the Saturday and a full Gallery is on her website.
Aldeburgh Yacht Club would espically like to thank their sponsors Demon Yachts and Marshall Hatchick Solicitors for their generous support.
