JOG's impressive trophy collection was distributed to the race winners of the season at a prizegiving dinner for the 2016 season held on Saturday 3rd December.
Long time JOG race boat Longue Pierre (Dehler 38, owned by Dr Paul England & David Cooper) claimed the coveted Imperator Trophy for JOG Yacht of the Year. This prestigious trophy was kindly donated by Paul Waxman in 2011 for the yacht of the year.
Joe Simmons, owner and skipper of Spectrum (Impala 28) won Young JOGger of the year. In only his second season racing in JOG, with a crew largely made up of fellow Surrey University students, Joe skippered Spectrum to win the Poole Cowes race this year for Class 6 and achieved a highly respectable 4th on the race back to Cowes the following day.
At the AGM earlier in the evening retiring Club Secretary Peter Chartres was made an honourary lifetime member of JOG. Outgoing Club Captain Nick Barlow will take over the role of Secretary in the spring. Peter Cover was appointed as new Club Captain with Jo Farquhar & Dougie Leacy appointed as Vice Captains. Robert Hillman, George Beevor & Tim Octon were appointed to the committee.
The 2017 JOG season of 17 races (9 offshore, 8 inshore) starts on Saturday 1st April 2017 with the ever popular Nab Tower race. Perfect for blowing away winter cobwebs. Entry forms will be available online from mid February at www.jog.org.uk
