Laser II class at the BUSA Fleet Racing Championships

48 Laser II's sallied forth for the first (and only) race of the BUSA Fleet Racing Championships at WPNSA last weekend. Whilst the Laser II revels in such windy conditions (steady F6 at Channel Light vessel) it does require good teamwork to extract the best results, and for some relative newcomers to the boat this was to prove a race too far! The combination of the gusty conditions and a floating windward mark anchor rope (which snagged a few 'boards and rudders) cut the field down to 14 at the finish.

The experienced Glasgow team of Roger Carter and last year's winning crew, Sophie Esson, came out on top, although other regular campaigners from Bath, Loughborough and Brunel kept the pressure on. The increasing wind strength cancelled further racing on Saturday for all fleets, and Sunday morning's full gale confirmed a dissapointing end to the Championships.

Laser II worlds to be held in UK
30th anniversary at WPNSA in July This will be the 9th Laser II world championships, and the 3rd to be held in the UK. As befits its 30th birth year and history as former IYRU Youth Boat, the UK Class Association has secured the use of the 2012 Olympic Sailing venue. Posted on 28 Feb 2009
