Enterprise NW Area Pursuit Race At Delph Sailing Club

Sun & light winds for the Enterprise NW Area End of Year Pursuit Race © Richard Critchley

26th November 2005 saw the last event of the year. It was held in cold conditions with a changing force 2 – 4 wind. The idea of the event is to give sailors who are less competent a chance to win an event. The best sailors started last. The moderate sailors started in the middle and so on.

Starting first was Lyn & Pat Rowlands from Etherow CPSC with 30 seconds from the next boat, which were Alison Payne & Kevin Law from Toddbrook SC. This process was carried on to the last off the start line, which were John Berry & Mark Russell from Etherow CPSC. Soon into the race Alison & Kev where into the lead followed by Rob and Rachel Cocking from Delph SC. Lyn & Pat fell through the fleet. Ed Pilling and Dave Boustead climbed through to second in their brand new Enterprise.

Ed had started in 4th. The biggest mover of the day was Steve Blackburn & Nick Hampson from Pilkington SC They started in 7th and sailed through into 2nd. As the race had really sorted itself out the final minutes where counting down Alison & Kev had a superior lead from Steve & Nick which had a convincing lead from third place Ed and Dave. Andy Taylor from Delph SC was in 4th place and as the gun came for the end of the 1-½ hour race he had stayed in front of his wife Karen Taylor in 5th. If I remember correctly there was a shout of excitement from Andy of finishing ahead of wife Karen. A great sail we had and to finish of the event we had hot pot to warm us from the cold.

After lunch we had the prize giving for the pursuit race and the North West Area Top Helm Event overall.

To finish of the day we had our AGM Meeting, celebrated 105 entries of Enterprise sailors for this year's events. The best turn out in over 10 years.

Keep the great sailing up everybody.
