Strathclyde Loch’s Christmas Regatta, held on 18th December, continued to grow this year, with plenty of junior sailors swelling entries to 70 boats. Winds started light, but there were a few spills by the last of the three races. Toppers were the biggest junior class, while the general handicap fleet attracted 28 boats.
In Toppers, Moray Clark took the first and last races to win, with Amy Buchan consistent in second and Lynn Crichton third overall. Nathan Forrester led from the first start line to take the Optimist class, but was hard pressed by James Logan in second, while Ross Stanley White took third.
In Radials, Callum Calder took a comfortable victory, while Sam Room’s last race win propelled him into second place, with Adam Steele third. In Lasers as well as Radials, adult sailors joined in, competing with Squad sailors, but again it was victory to the younger sailors as Andrew Clegg and Michael Gorzkowski took the first two places, ahead of the best adult, Andy McDaid.
In the big handicap fleet, Finn sailor Mark Andrews returned home to Scotland to take the class, with Solo sailors Kevan Gibb and Mickey Todd in a tight battle for the next two places. Neil Beveridge took fourth in his RS300, while Izzy Martin, helming an Albacore for the very first time, was delighted with fifth prize.
