Enterprise Open at Maidstone Sailing Club

It was a bright sunny morning with a brisk northerly wind with strong gusts.

Ten dinghies started the first race but 5413 A Knatchbull – Maidstone, soon became the first victim of the strong shifting gusts capsizing and retired. 22866 N Bush – Weir Wood and 23134 P Bennett – Dachet Water both made early mistakes in navigating the course dropping them to the back of the fleet. The 3rd lap saw another capsize this time 10880 G Sanderson – Maidstone who also retired. 23134 P Bennett soon made up f or his earlier mistake and took the lead in the 3rd lap and subsequently taking 1st place for the first race. 22877 J Stewart – Stokes Bay was 2nd and 22661 G Lawson – Bewl Water 3rd.

After lunch the wind appeared to be even stronger than in the morning. The six starters got of to a spectacular flying start in a very strong wind. 22866 N Bush capsized on the 1st lap and retired. 23122 J Higham – Chipstead capsized on the last lap losing him 3rd place. 23134 P Bennett took an early lead which he extended throughout the race with 22877 J Stewart finishig 2nd and 22810 N Kostiw – Chipstead 3rd.

The 3rd race saw the clouds come in and the temperature drop, but the wind continuing to blow as it had all day. Four dinghies jumped the start but 22661 G Lawson & 22866 N Bush failed to return to the line and so were disqualified. 23122 J Higham took the lead in the second lap and soon stretched his lead. However, 22877 J Stewart suddenly found himself on the transom of 23122 J Higham with ½ a lap to go but failed to take the lead and finished 2nd with 22810 N Kostiw taking 3rd.
