RS Games at the WPNSA: PA Consulting RS Feva Europeans Day 2

by Lucy Jameson 13 Aug 2018 10:24 BST 9-15 August 2018

Well, what a day! PRO Peter Saxton made the great call to postpone the start time due in part to the high wind forecast for the morning. Competitors made the most of a Sunday lie-in and extra time to eat big breakfasts and have a more leisurely start to the day.

International RS Feva Class Association Coaches representative Tim Rush delivered a superb question and answer session for all sailors and parents in the morning followed by full competitor briefing and daily prize giving.

With the winds abating enough for the fleet to launch competitors headed out to the racecourse. PRO Peter Saxton and his team wasted no time in setting the course and getting the Yellow flight off first, the wind was gusting and the sailors looked to be really enjoying the amazing conditions, a few struggled but all gave everything they could. Yellow flight race 1, following on from their 1st in race 3 GBRs Sophie Johnson and Dylan Collingbourne relished the windy conditions to take the first race win of the day. Blue fleet saw GBRs Tom Storey and Rupert Jameson take the Blue fleet race win, GBR Robbie McDonald and Teddy Ferguson take 2nd and GBR Sophie Dennis and Olivia Bracey Davis take 3rd.

Race 5 of the series and the conditions settling into a more steady breeze saw a nip and tuck battle to the finish between HKG Jon and Hannah Crawford, GBRs Sophie Johnson and Dylan Collingbourne, Ben Hutton Penman and Abi Jayasekara. Ben and Abi sniffed out the breeze to take the race 5 in Yellow followed by Jon and Hannah Crawford and then Sophie and Dylan. Another convincing race win for Tom and Rupert in Blue fleet with NED Robbert Huisman and Gijs Zuidema take 2nd with GBRs Ralph Neville and Luke Ansty.

The final race for the day saw a steady breeze and it's Ben and Abi taking another race win, Sophie and Dylan take 2nd and Jon and Hanna in third. Blue fleet and GBR Ralph Berry and Ben Bradley storm their way through the fleet to take the race win and then GBR Ralph Nevile and Luke Ansty in 2nd and GBR Annie Hammett and Emma Wells take 3rd.

A super day for all sailors, fabulous and varied conditions that truly tested competitors.

With Qualifying done the fleets split in half to make a Gold and Silver fleet and the battle for the European Championships title will commence.
