Liz Rushall of Rushall Marketing, Mark Jardine, Editor of YachtsandYachting.com and Sail-World.com, and Alistair Dickson from the RYA Sport Participation Team have run a series of webinars over the last 12 months, with the aim of increasing sailing participation, understanding the changing marketplace, and spreading the word on club initiatives and success stories, giving other clubs inspiration to boost numbers on the water and increase active membership.

Below are the full set of webinars so far, available for you to view in your own time. The webinars have been kindly chaired by Matt Sheahan and Andy Rice.

The Future of Sailing

This webinar summarises the participation and social trends affecting all sailing; cruising, racing dinghy and yachting.

Plus, insights into the consumer and social trends affecting the leisure and purchase habits of the younger generations.

A look at how sailing needs to compete with other activities and improve our overall marketing is also included.

Pay on Demand Sailing

In this second webinar, three sailing clubs share their experience of setting up and running 'pay on demand' boating for their members and new members.

Fascinating case studies from Cransley Sailing Club, Itchenor Sailing Club and Emsworth Sailing Club, all with different core objectives and models, with a brief introduction from Liz Rushall summarising the main trends and concerns affecting clubs and their future members.

Exploring alternative formats & club activity

Sailing is just one of the ways we can get on the water. In this webinar we look at how embracing other water users can boost club membership and activity, and can lead to an increase in sailing participation when the conditions aren't ideal for the SUPs and kayaks.

Marketing and Communications

In this fourth webinar, three sailing clubs demonstrate how using effective marketing and communications, with traditional means, social media, websites and the latest online tools and apps, can result in a significant boost to membership. Enlightening talks from Dartmouth Yacht Club, St. Denys Boat Club and South Staffordshire Sailing Club with input from the team of Liz, Mark and Alistair.

The Future of Sailing Q&A at the RYA Dinghy Show 2019

Matt Sheahan hosts as Liz Rushall, Mark Jardine and Alistair Dickson discuss the Future of Sailing with guests Luke Patience, Hannah Cockle, Henry Jameson and Sophia Benson with interaction from the RYA Dinghy Show audience using the sli.do app.

Volunteering

In this fifth webinar, Revealing Reality give a fascinating insight into what motivates volunteers to help at your sailing club, looking into the motivations of Sport, Self Improvement, Social and Community. Tom Whittingham, Commodore of Bowmoor Sailing Club, then explains how they are successfully implementing volunteering at their club.

Club Member Satisfaction

As the old adage goes, it's much easier to keep a customer than attract a new one. In this sixth webinar we look at what sailing clubs in particular can do to keep their membership satisfied and therefore reduce the numbers who leave every year. Expert insights from Rachel Allen from the Leadership Factor and see how Hollowell Sailing Club and Haversham Sailing Club have implemented initiatives.
