Team Philips to leave Dartmouth on Saturday morning

by Team Philips Media 29 Sep 2000 08:38 BST

Team Philips will attempt to defy the remnants of Hurricane Isaac by leaving Dartmouth early on Saturday morning

If current weather trends persist Skipper Pete Goss anticipates a departure at around 0700hrs BST. Lee Bruce, the team meteorologist, visualises plenty of wind west of the dominant low pressure system.

"This gives us a chance to get some sea miles under our belts, said Goss.

"It's likely that we will stay out on Saturday night and return to Dartmouth as late as possible on Sunday, but we are constantly reviewing the situation."

The Autumn equinox is notorious for its gales, which are expected to dominate the first half of next week. Goss, however, is adamant that he intends to leave for America and an extended sea trial en route in the Atlantic on Thursday, 5 October.

"It is frustrating, Goss admitted.

"The situation is extremely unpredictable. We are monitoring the situation constantly but the problem is that things are moving so fast because of the remnants of the hurricane that it is difficult to forecast anything with any certainty."
