Tasar World Championship at Hayling Island Sailing Club - Day 6

It's the final day of racing and two races were scheduled to make it up to 12 in total for the World Championship. Weather gods decided not to bathe Hayling Bay in sunshine, instead it was overcast with an easterly breeze.

Race Officer, Mark Wood was keen to get them away on time. Once all the Tasars were out in Hayling Bay and due to start at 12:05 BST the wind decided to shift causing a 10-minute postponement. Race 11 got under way at 12:15 BST and with no one misbehaving the committee boat gave the call "all clear" Leaders at the windward mark were Aussie's AUS 2942 James and Tara Burman, followed by GBR 2629 Rick and Sarah Perkins in second and GER 2972 Stephen Heim and Susanne Schwickert in third.

AUS 2942 James and Tara Burman with a near 2 min lead over championship leaders AUS 2848 Rob and Nicole Douglass were again first round the leeward mark and stayed at the front for the rest of the race making Race 11 results, first AUS 2942 James & Tara Burman, second GBR 2629 Rick & Sarah Perkins and third AUS 2848 Rob & Nicole Douglass.

With a third in Race 11 AUS 2848 Rob Douglass and Nicole Douglass and a seventh for championship rival GBR 2877 James Peters and Charlie Darling the Douglasses had the title in the bag with a race to spare and chose to sit out Race 12 and gives them a 3rd World Championship title.

Race 12 started at 13:41 BST, again with an "all clear". First round the mark this time was Hayling Island Sailing Clubs female duo Judith Massey and Sophie Mackley and saw them lead all the way round and win the last race of the day and the last race in the 2019 Championship. A very smiley Judith Massey in the boat park said "A goal of mine was to win a race in a championship, in 2008 I came close in a Merlin, but this tops it - winning a race in a World Championship! It was quite stressful, Sophie did a great job, we were just defending all race. We had rubbish air to start with but just by the first mark it cleaned up and we were off."

Final race results of the day went to GBR 2515 Judith Massey and Sophie Mackley, second AUS 2942 James and Tara Burman and third GBR 2877 James Peters and Charlie Darling.

With a second for James and Tara, and a third for James and Charlie in Race 12 the overall Championship results are as follows...
