Enterprise OpenatNewbiggin by the Sea Sailing Club

by Amy Fayers 27 Jul 2006 06:50 BST 22-23 July 2006

Newbiggin By The Sea Sailing Club held their Enterprise 'Cock of the North' open meeting over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd July 2006. The conditions were interesting with bright sunshine on both days, temperatures of 25 degrees with wind ranging from a force 1 - 3 for both days.

10 boats competed in the event from as far afield as Ogston, Killington, Berwick and Tynemouth. On the Saturday, the first race did not get off to a good start as the wind died and the postponement flag went up for 20 minutes. Eventually we started the race and the there was hot competition between Andy & Victoria Gomm and P Lanson & D Swan. When it came to finish the race only two boats crossed the finish line as the wind died off and the rest of the competitors retired.

On Sunday Morning when we came to start the first race the wind had picked up for the sailors and there was competition between Tim Sadler & Richard Sault and Andy & Victoria Gomm as at one point they were neck and neck. When they came to finish, Tim Sadler and Richard Sault had taken the lead.

After lunch the final race was held. Since the wind had swung the course had to be reset. It was another good start for the competitors with the wind force 2, until near the end of the race. The wind started to die off so the committee boat had to get to the finish line before the lead boat. Tim Sadler & Richard Sault finished first and all of the competitiors completed the last race.

It was good to see some of the Youth Squad sailing members over the weekend namely; Graham Birch, Lorriane Blank, Jonathan Lambeth & Kirsten Tarn.

A good sail was had by all. Thanks to all competitors, and those who helped on the day to make this a splendid weekend.

Overall Results: (3 races, 2 to count)
