In celebration of International Women's Day, WOKC would like to announce the opening of entries for the 12th edition of the Women's Open Keelboat Championship.
WOKC is proud to offer an opportunity for those who would not usually get involved and those who want to step up or across into different positions, while still offering a tantalising level of world-class competition.
This year the event will be hosted on the 13th/14th June from the beautiful location of the Royal Southern Yacht Club, where we are able to host all parts of the event without compromise or losing the excellent sailing conditions offered by the Central Solent.
We are very grateful for all of the support Hamble River Sailing Club have given us over the years; it has allowed us to grow and develop into the brilliant event we have become, and so we are equal parts sad and excited to be making this move.
Emily Robertson, the Royal Southern Sailing Secretary said, "We are excited to be the new home of the Dubarry Women's Open Keelboat Championship 2020, entry for which is now open, so we can do our part in ensuring that the future is bright and full of opportunities across the sport for women everywhere."
The WOKC team is delighted that Dubarry has agreed to return as title sponsor, having been a generous supporter of the championships since their inception in 2008 and having been the title sponsor for the last 8 events. Participants in the Dubarry Women's Open Keelboat Championships will have the opportunity to win much admired Dubarry items, which will be available as prizes for class winners and in the overall Championship.
"We are very excited for WOKC 2020, we have a few changes this year including our move to the Royal Southern but are very pleased with Dubarry's continuing support. After the great success of the RS21 class in the 2019 edition we are also opening entries for a sportsboat class and hope that this will allow even more women to get involved!" said Tor Tomlinson of the WOKC organising committee.
The inclusion of the sportsboat class will allow boats such as J70's, J80's and SB20 enter and race under the Royal Southern's handicap's rather than having to get an IRC certificate. The WOKC team hope that this will bring even more participation and appeal to even more sailors!
Entries open on Sunday 8th March - International Women's Day - on the WOKC website, womensopenkeelboatchampionships.co.uk.
