A new dinghy event has been planned for 2020. The inaugural Isle of Wight Dinghy Championships will be hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club over the weekend of 20 and 21 June. The event has been organised and supported by a group of island dinghy sailing clubs to attract a varied fleet of boats.

It is open to all dinghies with a PY between 1438 (RS Tera) and 761 (Shadow catamarans), together with RS Feva, Aero, Lasers, RS100, RS400, Spring 15, Scows as well as mixed handicap fleets. Entrants must be a member of an island-based sailing club to take part.

"We're delighted to be hosting this new and exciting event in RVYC's 175th year", said RVYC Commodore, Chris Rickman. "We're planning five races over the two days and look forward to welcoming the best of the island's dinghy sailors to our Club."

Entries are £20 per boat for over 18s and £10 per boat for 18 and under. Around 80 boats are expected to enter and racing will take place in the eastern Solent with committee boat starts for all classes. There will also be a BBQ on the Saturday after racing. There is plenty of free parking for cars and trailers at the club.

For more information, visit iwdinghychampionship.co.uk or email Sam Prime at . Entry forms and the notice of race are downloadable from the website.
