Enterprise Open at Brookvale & Sparkhill Sailing Club

by Paul Young 20 Sep 2006 09:00 BST 17 September 2006

A small but quality fleet contested this event in the Speed Sails Double Chine Series. The light and variable winds caused problems for the Race Officer, and competitors alike.

In the first race Ges Brown / Dennis Swain took the lead from the first windward mark and then built up a huge lead to finish first. Second was Jack and Jenny Mead, and third was Mike Cossey / John Witton.

A new course was set for the afternoon. Paul Young / Therese O’Toole got off to a flying start of the second race but some strong sailing from Gez and Dennis soon put them in the lead which they held to the finish. Second again was Jack and Jenny, and third Mike Cossey / John Witton.

With the overall winner now decided the battle was on for second and third places. Ges was over the line and had to restart. Paul / Therese made another good start and lead up the first beat, but a mistake near the first mark allowed Mike / John and Jack / Jenny through. Ges soon started gaining ground and was in the lead by the half way stage and took line honours, Mike was second and Jack third.
