Ovington 2021 - ILCA 3 - LEADERBOARD

Noble Marine / Ovington ILCA 7 Qualifier 2 at the WPNSA

by Drew Barnes 23 Mar 2022 12:41 GMT 19-20 March 2022

The second qualifier of the year brought big winds again for the 28 ILCA7s, with the welcome addition of some British Sailing Team members home from their travels.

30 knots on the wall average on Saturday meant that AP of A was a fast move from the Race Committee, some people went to relax and get some extra rest before a big day on the Sunday, however some people went for a local 5 aside football match ILCA6s versus ILCA7s. Least to say two of the British Sailing Team nearly got written off for the next four years (don't tell the physios) but it was a close game...

Sunday, we started bright and early for 9.55 start everyone was rearing to go!

The first race went to James Pericval-Cooke after Sam Whaley went for a nice swim to see the dolphins and in third was Charlie south the Vaikobi Viking, quite a relaxed race in 22-25knots.

The second race went to Sam Whaley second James PC and third was Jack Hopkins, the newly named Jack Dawson after the Stokes Bay Qualifier.

The third race also went to Sam Whaley, second James PC and in third again Jack Hopkins. Within the third race, fresh out of isolation but straight in the drink, was Jake Farren Price. After race three Sam Whaley proposed a deal involving an early shower to James PC, which he declined, to go for the win instead which didn't work, maybe in hindsight a warm shower would have been better for the fitness testing that had to be completed after sailing. Fourth race once again Sam Whaley 1st, 2nd was James PC and changing it up was Finn Dickinson in 3rd.

Drew with a broken toe strap adjuster and while Mark and Rob overhearing Sam Whaley's proposed deal and ended up deciding it was fair game, all headed for an early shower. It was well run event and the Sunday was a great day's racing with fast turn arounds, we really did make the most out of the forecast. Overall winner was Sam Whaley second was James PC, third was Jack Hopkins. 1st Under 21 place was Finn Dickinson and 1st Under 19 was Arthur Farley.

The ILCA 7 Fleet would like to thank all those at WPNSA both on shore and on the water teams for a great day of racing. Also all the volunteers from UKLA who made the day run so smoothly.
