Enterprise Open at Barnt Green Sailing Club

by Paul Young 17 Apr 2022 20:06 BST 3 April 2022

This event the first in the 2022 Enterprise Midland Area Double Chine Series was held at Barnt Green sailing club on Sunday 3rd April. A small fleet took part on a dry but chilly day in the light to moderate winds from roughly from west.

In the first race Jim Sawle crewed by his son Stanley (Midland SC) and Gordon Padmore crewed by his wife Rose (Barnt Green SC) swapped places many times over the first couple of laps, whilst Paul Young crewed by Megan Ward (Midland SC) sorted out a centreboard problem which kept them ashore. Eventually Jim and Stanley broke clear and built up a good lead to win this race, Gordon and Rose finished second some distance behind.

After the lunch break racing place took on a new course. Jim crewed by his daughter Mabel this time, made the best start, however Paul and Megan soon got going and after a couple of place changes on the first lap, took the lead which, they held to the finish. Jim and Mabel and Gordon and Rose also had a few battles early on, however Jim and Mabel also got away to finish second.

With two of the lady crews now feeling the cold, Jim crewed for Gordon in the last race. This time Paul and Megan got best start and after a few early challenges, soon got into their stride to win this race convincingly and also win the meeting.
