Festival of the Water 2022 at Sussex Yacht Club

by Chris Hawkes 27 Jun 2022 13:06 BST 10-12 June 2022

In 2021 Sussex Yacht Club completed the build on the brand-new clubhouse. On the same weekend as the Sussex Combined Clubs Regatta, the Sussex Yacht Club (SYC) brought together an eclectic mix of events to celebrate everything about enjoying the water and to celebrate the first year of being in the new clubhouse. Dubbed the Festival of the Water 2022, across the whole weekend various events made up the festival.

Onshore entertainments included live music from Tom Walker, Amelia Curtis, Allstars and the Wellington Wailers and great food, drink & hospitality served from the excellent House team at Stow's restaurant and bar at SYC.

The Shoreham Society presented SYC with a plaque as an award for the progressive and sympathetic design of the new clubhouse.

On the water the conditions were particularly challenging with a F5 bringing up some big waves. Various sections of SYC membership put on events.

The Shoreham Outrigger Canoe Club, a new section at SYC. put on one of the most impressive displays with a race from Littlehampton to Shoreham. These impressive 6 person vessels looked a handful in the conditions and some capsizes occurred.

A Surfski kayak race in the River Adur from the Ferry bridge to the Old Toll bridge and back.

SYC SUP School hosted a number of events across the weekend, with races, beginner sessions and even SUP yoga.

Shoreham Sailing Club and Lancing Sailing Club hosted race 1 of their 3 event Battle of the Beaches.

Family focussed crabbing competition which attracted a huge turnout of entrant and even more crabs from one of the club pontoons in the river. All crabs were returned to river unharmed!

And finally, the Sussex Regatta as organised by the Sussex Combined Clubs had a fun but challenging time out in Sussex Bay. Full right up here Sussex Combined Clubs Regatta 2022 here.

Prize giving for events was held in the clubhouse at the end of the day and all agreed it was a fantastic weekend. Thanks to all event organisers, volunteers and attendees that made the weekend so special.
