29er EuroCup Hungary at Balatonfüredi Yacht Club - Preview

by International 29er Class 12 Sep 2022 16:22 BST 22-25 September 2022

After hosting the first Hungarian 29er EuroCup in 2019, Balatonfüredi Yacht Club - the third oldest sailing club in Europe - will again host this year's EuroCup, the ninth event in a series of 10 in the 29er Class for 2022.

The event is also the National Championship for the Hungarian competitors. With teams from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Ireland and Slovakia already entered, it looks to be a well attended event and competitors can still enter with the early bird fee until the 15th of September.

This penultimate event precedes the EuroCup Final to be held in Lake Garda, Italy in October. Currently leading the series is Norwegian team Balder Støen and Emil Forslund, followed closely by team Finland Aatos Kylävainio and Onni Kylävainio and in third is the Swiss team Pablo Rüegge and Linus Abicht.

Hungarian Female team of Luca Kis-Szölgyémi and Hanga Ugron currently sit in 5th overall in the EuroCup series and Under 17 team of Soma Kis-Szölgyémi and Sámuel Juhász who became U17 World Champions this summer in El Balis, currently lead the U17 category in the 29er EuroCup series in 16th position overall.

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe situated in the middle of the Hungarian Trans-Danube territory in the western part of the country. The 77-km-length and the 14-km-width form a 600 square kilometre sailing area.

The wave pattern is very special - the short and relatively high waves can make for challenging racing especially in higher winds. During September the prevailing wind is Easterly and average day temperature a very pleasant 20 - 25 degrees with low chance of rain, making for near perfect sailing conditions.

The online notice board for the competition can be found at byc.hu/regatta/29er-ec-ob.

See you on the 21st of September at the registration in the clubroom of the Balatonfüred Yacht Club between 17:00-20:00!
