The weekend of October 15th & 16th saw the Royal Western Yacht Club host the annual event for the Allspars Final Fling Dinghy Regatta.

The regatta, now in its fifth year saw dinghies congregate to Plymouth to enjoy and be challenged by the forever changing wind and tide that Plymouth Sound has to offer. With a drop in entries due to the weather forecast, we saw 35 boats take to the water.

The weekend presented many challenges with the high winds and spring tides. The first day, Saturday we saw a break in the weather and managed to run one windward leeward before the wind speed increased and a weather front came in where we retreated back to the warmth and safety of the Royal Western Club House for a sponsored Happy Hour and daily prizes.

Sunday was a much better day which meant we were able to run with three back-to-back races South of Drakes Island. Winds gusting around 25 mph and an offshore swell coming into the sound, the fleet was split into a Fast and Slow Handicap and managed by the in-house Race Management team onboard Fulmar. The weekend finished with food, drinks and overall prizes back at the Club House.

Once again, this event is hugely supported by Allspars Rigging, Plymouth University Sailing, Horizons Plymouth and many individuals and club members from the Royal Western. Whom which all come together to make this event successful, fun and safe for all those involved.

This event alone highlights the great racing that can be achieved and still exists in Plymouth, Dinghy or Yacht. Along with a professional Race Management Team, the Royal Western Yacht Club is to date very much a great place to come and experience racing for beginners, intermediate and advanced racers from all of the United Kingdom.

The dates for the sixth year has been released as October 14th and 15th 2023 and we'd like to welcome all to come and join us.
