This year's Tasar Nationals will be hosted at the popular Paignton Sailing Club from the 7th - 9th July 2023. The Tasar GBR Class association is looking to regain the excellent momentum achieved just before the pandemic and the 2019 World Championships held at Hayling Island Sailing Club.

The association is offering free entry to the first 5 teams that have either never competed in a Tasar Nationals or not done so in the last 10 years. This promotion seeks to encourage new and lapsed competitors into/back to the fleet. The class is also keen to see entries on the board soon so the first 10 entries will go into a hat at the event briefing and one lucky team will get their entry fee refunded.

GBR Class Chairman Rick Perkins said, "The class was going strong prior to the pandemic hosting a 70 boat world championships in the UK. We are looking to regain that momentum and as such the class is using some of the association funds to promote this event and to attract new and lapsed teams back into the fleet".

To claim a free entry slot, you just need to enter on-line at: paigntonsailingclub.co.uk/open-events-championships/tasar-national-championships-2023 and then email to register your interest.

The slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis and those who have been successful will be notified in advance of the event. Entries will need to be paid for, and then refunded at the event.

"We hope this initiative will attract back long-lost friends and welcome new ones into the Tasar fleet" said Rick.

The class is hoping for a strong turnout at Paignton as the fleet prepares to send a team out to the World Championships being hosted by Sandringham YC in Melbourne Australia in January 2024.

The Tasar was designed by Frank Bethwaite and was widely considered to be well ahead of its time. With its lightweight, fine lined hull and sophisticated rig it is easily driven to high-performance without the need for trapeze or spinnaker.

The design concept allows teams of all shapes and sizes to compete with the class being particularly popular with couples, parent and child combinations and friends alike. Typical crew weights range from 130 - 150kgs... and some a little higher.

The boats are well made, and hulls remain competitive for many years; a recent GBR National Championships was won by a 22-year-old boat.

The Tasar is an international class, with strong fleets in Australia, USA, Britain, and Japan. The class gained status from the World Governing Body for Sailing in November 2001 permitting the class to hold an officially recognised World Championships. This creates opportunities for international travel for owners.

Entries are now open and can be made on-line at the PSC website. First click the red button and complete the form then pay using the button below.
