Harken announced today that it has been named an Official Supplier by NYYC American Magic, Challenger for the 37th America's Cup, the oldest trophy in international sports.
Harken is pleased to play an integral supporting role in this outstanding team's Cup effort. Harken will supply deck hardware, winches, blocks, and hydraulic components for American Magic's AC40 and AC75 racing boats. The equipment is designed and built in Harken factories in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and Limido Comasco, Italy.
"Over the past two Cup cycles, we've developed an acute appreciation for American Magic's high-functioning culture, character, commitment, and ability on the water. All of these are on display everywhere you look in their campaign," said Harken CEO Bill Goggins.
"The American Magic design, sailing, performance, and commercial teams demonstrate deep talent and are now quite experienced in the Cup arena," Goggins said. "Terry Hutchinson's track record on the water is undeniably impressive. However, his off-the-water leadership attributes arguably stand out as the most vital quality within a large team aspiring to attain the ultimate prize.
"From top to bottom, they know getting better takes more than just funding. You need structure and hard work. American Magic is never satisfied, constantly pushing for more. Like their competitors, they will do everything in their power to win the Cup. That's why the America's Cup is such an incredible sporting event."
"When discussing our partnership with Harken, the excitement stems from several factors. Firstly, being a US-based company, Harken's contribution to sailing technology from the Midwest is just awesome," said American Magic President of Sailing Operations and Skipper Terry Hutchinson. "In the America's Cup, where time and resources are scarce, having reliable partners like Harken is crucial. We trust that Harken will deliver on our shared objectives promptly and effectively. Moreover, their longstanding leadership in sailing, dating back to Peter and Olaf's work in the 12-Meter era, is truly impressive. Aligning with such expertise elevates our team's capabilities and aspirations."
The 37th America's Cup match will take place October 12-27, 2024, in Barcelona, Spain in AC75 class yachts. To determine the match challenger, Louis Vuitton Cup round-robin races will precede the match also in Barcelona. Youth and Women's America's Cup events will be contested in AC40 class yachts, adjacent to the Louis Vuitton Cup rounds in September and October.
