It's a 25 nautical mile battle of beach cats and yachts, along what is perhaps the finest coast line of the Mediterranean: the Ionian Regatta.
This year's spectacle will take place in the week of September 14, when summer is already wrapping up in western Europe, but we expect the sun to shine abundantly in Greece as yachts and the Wildwind fleet of catamarans jostle for position on the same start line, albeit with different time sequences.
Once the fleet sails out of Vassiliki Bay, they'll circumnavigate the beautiful but uninhabited island of Arkoudi, leaving it to port and then the catamaran fleet returns into Vassiliki for its finish, while the yachts head directly into Sivota harbour and their finish line.
The Ionian Regatta always is a truly international event, with a regular following among Wildwind aficianados; the various teams from Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and other countries participating, choosing their particular course across this part of the Ionian sea.
Whether you take place in the race or not, (as normal activities for those less experienced continue in Vassiliki bay) you are welcome to join the prize-giving and end of season celebrations in the truly stunning natural harbour of Sivota - including some fabulous live bands. There is a small extra charge for those entering the regatta payable locally.
If you're curious but you're not sure if it's for you, you might want to check out this video from Joe's Joyrider YouTube Channel, where he covers his own 2022 Ionian Regatta Race:
Join the race as participant or as crew
If you feel you're not experienced enough to join the race, you might consider to sail as crew together with one of our experienced staff members. These roles are highly sought after, so be sure to indicate your desire to do so on as soon as you get to the centre.
Only six places left
Every year, we see the Ionian Regatta gets booked fully earlier and earlier. At the moment of writing, we have only 6 places left for Wildwind guests who wish to take part in the race.
If you plan to visit us in the week September 14 but long distance races aren't your thing: our regular sailing programme operates in parallel. You're still welcome to join in on all the land-based festivities that surround the race.
