H-Boat World Championships 2024 at Björneborgs Segelförening, Finland

by Sami Ekblad 20 Aug 11:37 BST 12-17 August 2024

The 2024 H-Boat World Championships were held from August 12 to 17 at the picturesque Kallo venue in Pori, hosted by the esteemed Björneborgs Segelförening (BSF).

The event attracted some of the best sailors mostly across Europe but also Australia, competing fiercely in a series of 11 races under varying conditions that tested their skill and endurance.

The regatta was dominated by Flavio Favini and his crew from Italy, who secured the world championship title with a remarkable performance, amassing only 12 points across the races. Favini's team showcased consistent excellence, winning several races with confidence.

The second place went to Anders Bertelsen from Denmark (Aarhus Sejlklub), who finished with 32 points, followed closely by his compatriot Claus Høj Jensen from Herslev Sejlklub, who took third place with 39 points.

The top Finnish contender, Jari Saarinen from Naantalin Pursiseura, finished sixth with 95 points, making him the best-performing local sailor in the competition.

The competition saw a variety of sailing conditions, from light winds to challenging waves, making it a true test of versatility and endurance for all participants. Despite a rocky start in the earlier races, Høj Jensen, a seasoned sailor with multiple world championships to his name, made a brilliant comeback during the last two races to climb onto the podium.
