BIA promotes industry ahead of Qld State Election © Boating Industry Association
As the Queensland State election draws near, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) is working to ensure the contenders are aware of the importance of the marine industry to society and the economy.
Often overshadowed by construction and mining, the boating economy generates significant benefits and the BIA is raising awareness of the fact national industry turnover last year reached $10.12 billion, directly employed more than 27,500 people with more than 8250 contractors. 75 per cent of businesses are family concerns, employing local workers and supporting local communities.
We have always stressed the need to introduce school leavers into the industry. TAFE Queensland is excited to offer four 'micro-credentials' designed to empower the workforce with skills in operating advanced technologies such as 3D scanners and mixed reality headsets. Participants will attend small courses in specific areas to learn to process point cloud data to enhance 3D visualisation and ensure precision, ultimately reducing production costs by minimising errors and waste.
Also in Queensland, the Gold Coast Marine Jobs & Careers Expo held at the Marine Precinct, 7 September, shone the spotlight on the huge number and variety of opportunities in the boating industry. The Boat Works is a central hub of the marine precinct, home to 100+ marine businesses on-site and with around 2,000 people working on the visiting vessels on any given day.
