Western Australia's premier sailing event, Geographe Bay Race Week, is in full swing, bringing together over 80 boats and a world-class lineup of sailors to the stunning waters of Busselton.
From America's Cup veterans and Olympians to World Champions and weekend warriors, this year's regatta has attracted a formidable fleet.
In the lead-up to the event, boats made the journey down from Perth, arriving on Friday and Saturday just in time for registration. After a lively opening night at the Geographe Bay Yacht Club, a few weary sailors shook off the celebrations to hit the water for Day 1 on Sunday, February 16.
The Vipers, VX Ones, and Flying 15s were scheduled to start at 11 am, but in true G-Bay fashion, the wind had other plans. A patient wait—and a few refreshing swims—finally paid off when a gentle northwesterly zephyr rolled in just before 1 pm, allowing racing to get under way against the picturesque backdrop of Busselton Jetty and the keelboats tackling their first passage race.
With shifting breezes keeping tacticians on their toes, the mini-regatta fleet completed two races, setting the stage for a thrilling Day 2. As the regatta progresses, competitors can expect more close-quarters racing, tactical duels, and unforgettable moments on the pristine turquoise waters of Geographe Bay.
