2025 Geographe Bay Race Week - Day 2
by Geographe Bay Yacht Club 19 Feb 11:33 GMT
15-21 February 2025
With the cobwebs well and truly blown out from a bout of racing on Sunday afternoon, the mini-regatta sailors were on the water bright and early on Monday morning - braving a 9 am start.
The wind gods were cooperating (for the time being) delivering a spritely 10-15 knot southeasterly, much to the delight of all the fleets. RO Dubbo was able to fire off two races before disaster struck! You guessed it - the building heat of the day killed the breeze!
The fleets resorted to swimming and floating (again) as Dubbo and the 'Geographe Bay Mark Layers Uncooperative' deliberated calling it a day in favour of a delicious steak sandwich and a few pints of lager at Shelter Brewing - good thinking! Or so we thought...
However, bang on 1 pm (just as the keelboats began to emerge from Port Geographe in preparation for the afternoons racing) the wind flipped into the north west, putting paid to our cunning plan!
The VX One's, Vipers and Flying 15's got in a final race (making it three for the day) before heading in for a late lunch and relaxing afternoon at the GBYC bar to take in the views and watch the passing parade of spinnakers.
