Royal Perth Yacht Club (RPYC) is proud to announce it will host the prestigious 2025 Australian Open Match Racing Championships, taking place from the 7th to 11th July 2025 on the pristine waters of Matilda Bay, Swan River.

A cornerstone of Australia's competitive sailing calendar, this national championship will bring together top-ranked match racing teams from across the country to compete in a thrilling head-to-head format renowned for its fast-paced, tactical sailing.

"We are thrilled to host the Australian Open Match Racing Championships and showcase Perth's exceptional sailing conditions," said Travis Burtenshaw, Boating Operations Manager at Royal Perth Yacht Club. "This event offers a fantastic opportunity to highlight the skill, precision, and competitive spirit that defines match racing on a national stage."

The championship will feature Elliott 7 yachts, with six boats supplied by the Organising Authority. Each yacht will be equipped with a mainsail, jib, and symmetrical spinnaker, and allocated by random draw at each stage. While every effort will be made to equalise the fleet, minor variations will not be grounds for redress, promoting tactical excellence and adaptability among teams.

The race format will include a round robin series, followed by knockout finals, with seeding based on the official Open Match Racing rankings as of 1st July 2025. Unranked skippers will be seeded in order of entry. Racing will take place on a windward/leeward course with starboard roundings, finishing downwind—offering spectators a front-row view of the action-packed duels in Matilda Bay.

An Expression of Interest (EOI) is now open for teams eager to secure their place in this prestigious event. Interested skippers and crews are encouraged to register HERE.

Royal Perth Yacht Club looks forward to welcoming Australia's best match racing talent and delivering an unforgettable regatta that celebrates excellence, teamwork, and the spirit of competitive sailing in one of the country's most iconic venues.
