The St Mawes OD is a 16 foot carvel build bermudan rigged dayboat, designed in 1923 by Frankie Peters who also built the majority of the boats. The class is indigenous to the Carrick Roads area of Cornwall with the fleet split equally between St Mawes on the eastern shore and Falmouth and Flushing on the west. A total of 43 boats have been built to date and the fleet race regularly at Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, the local village regattas and at Falmouth Week. With a sail area of 177sq ft including a jib set on a small bowsprit, the boats can be a real handful in anything over 15 knots of wind. No spinnaker is carried and the jib is goosewinged downwind with the aid of a whisker pole.
