405 Open at Rutland Sailing Club4

by Andy Bath 22 Mar 2004 07:27 GMT 13th and 14th March

The 405 meeting at Rutland took place between the 13th and 14th of March, and saw nearly 15 boats take part in the howling winds over the two days.

Tim Needham and Tom Foskett led the way up to the windward mark and from then on, a close battle raged for 1st place between them, and Tom’s brother James with Sophie White. However, the gap between the two top boats and the rest of the fleet was getting smaller, due to the combined efforts of William Twemlow with his crew Andrew Bath.

If they thought the first day was windy, the second day blew them away, with gusts reaching 35 knots, and by the time everyone had reached the start line (after numerous capsizes!), the race was abandoned.

The event would not be complete without a breakage of some sort, and this duty was for filled by William Twemlow and Andrew Bath, who managed to cripple their mast!

Nevertheless, the event was enjoyed by all, especially by James Foskett and Sophie White, who won yet another event!

Overall Results:

1st James Foskett and Sophie White (Staunton Harold)
2nd Tom Foskett and Tim Needham (Staunton Harold)
3rd William Twemlow and Andrew Bath (Notts County)
