Mistral Worlds at Cesme, Turkey - Day 3

Dempsey moves up to fourth in windy conditions
A windy day met the competitors on the third day of the Mistral world championship. The women’s fleet were sent out but later returned to shore after their racing was abandoned as the wind had exceeded 30 knots. The men however, managed two races and Team GBR sailor Nick Dempsey moved up into fourth place overall.
Dempsey excelled in the first race of the day scoring a second place but an unfortunate incident when he broke part of his board, saw him drop from second to eighth in the second race of the day. Despite this set back, he still moved up four places to fourth overall, just two points off third place.
Despite a black flag disqualification for starting prematurely, championship leader Nicolas Huguet of France managed to maintain his lead over the fleet from team mate Julien Bontemps. The reigning world champion Przemek Miarczynski of Poland is currently lying in third place.
Tomorrow will see the men’s fleet enjoy a lay day whilst the women’s fleet will compete to make up for the lost races from today.
The event continues through until the 17 April. A total of twelve races are scheduled.
